MC YALLAH + DEBMASTER

They say that strangers are just friends waiting to be made. While the next artists stepping up to the IVX lineup are first time International callers, after one appearance we think you'll be calling them long time lovers. Please pump those little red hearts for doom-hop duo MC Yallah + Debmaster.

First let's focus on our fearless, peerless, feminist, four-tongued, rapid fire lioness with a taste for beats so furious that most rappers would trip on their own tongues trying to flow to them. Kenyan born, Ugandan raised, Globally praised, @mcyallah luxuriously picks and chooses between Kiswahili, Luganda, English and Luo, depending on what mood strikes and what the beat suggests. An outlier in the male dominated East African hip-hop sphere for over 20 years, MC Yallah has stayed the course with a conscious style of high fidelity truth-spraying, tackling topics close to home. However, a melding with the Ugandan based Nyege Nyege milieu was the first domino to fall on her path to world domination, ultimately leading to new pairings, new sounds and long overdue dues.

Enter Debmaster for a meeting of minds and crafts so unlikely as to be a contender for a Sliding Doors sequel. Different continent, different country, different culture, different colour, different gender. With a completely contrasting yet complimentary skillset, @debmaster_the_real_one is to MC Yallah what mash (or Deb) is to bangers. However, the French born electronic artist's wonky arpeggios + doom scented beats and MC Yallah's pretty-much-everything share, at their roots, a life inextricable from hip-hop.

In terms of those dominoes we mentioned, their combined wares have already been acknowledged by the likes of Björk, Aphex Twin and even Iggy Pop. They've seen the upper limits of numerous charts for their album Kubali. And so far Dekmantel, Unsound, Nyege Nyege and Terraforma have all fallen for this exceptional duo. We are lovestruck and so too will you be at Inner Varnika's 10 year celebration, IVX.
